Thank you for adding me to the forum.
My question is, do the twin 4.3 Merc's work well in the 270?
It's a decent size boat, and I'm wondering if it's better suited to the 5.7's.

Welcome aboard.

Well, there's an old adage in boating... you can never have enough power. But in that size boat, yes, the 4.3's work fine. It won't be a screamer and if the load is bigger, you'll definitely need to deploy the tabs (they'll help regardless). But if you're not going to have a big load most of the time and are just looking for a comfy cruiser, the V6's will be fine.

thanks for the reply! I'm split between the 270, or a Doral Citation. My wife likes the idea of the 10' beam, but I don't want to go broke running a pair of 5.7's. So, the 4.3's would fit the bill. My only other hang up at the moment are the goofy, backless jump seats with the wine rack for a back. The Citation has a nicer cockpit layout.

3 and a half decades ago that was considered high class!

But don't go by pictures, alone (if you are, that is). Go and see them in person. Check out the way things "feel" - look at use of storage space - test ride them.

V8's won't really change your fuel economy - for example, you'll get on plane faster which will save fuel. You might even be better since you're not running them as hard. Either way, the difference is going to insignificant - so scratch off the fuel economy as a decision factor.

I’ve been aboard both boats, and the 270 is far more stable for moving around on, and considering we want it for a weekender on the Trent Severn Waterway, the extra room will be nice. And good point about the fuel difference. Thanks again!

The jump seats are only good at slip or anchor. While underway, it feels like you are about to do a face plant on cockpit floor.
On the other hand, unlike the mid 90s thru now, those seats fold out of the way, along with transom seat allowing for a large cockpit. Which allowed space for a zodiac, motor, bicycles while traveling.

I could see that! You’re sitting downhill..good point!

I like the ability to have all that space. We look at some newer boats with fixed seats and its fine for sitting but no room to move around.
See this, thats a SR 300, fine for sipping wine at dock. I got more cockpit space in a 250.

@Pirate Lady
you are aware that table comes out, right? Thus leaving plenty of room...

He wasnt sure if he liked the flip up seats, i was simply pointing out that they have benefits over fixed seats. It was my opinion. Why am i getting hammered about this? Y’all have a bad day?

No, not at all. I just think it's important to stay on point to what the OP is talking about/interested in. Sometimes it's all too easy to impart our own opinions on someone else - yet we're not fully understand their needs or their wants. For example, if I look at the picture of the 300DA you posted... I would absolutely LOVE that arrangement. Although it was smaller, when I had my 260DA, it had a similar setup and we used it all the time. It was perfect for us... but that's not what is important here - what IS important is what's meaningful and useful for Gordo.
