I am new to the site. I have owned my 1989 Sea Ray 180 IB/OB for about 2 years with no problems until Saturday. Got the boat in the water. Starting backing up and went to turn the steering wheel. It was tight and then just went free with no steering control. Got back to the dock and got it out and took it home. The actual cable is not broke. It looks like the housing that attaches to the steering box is broke loose. Not sure if this can be fixed or if I can get another one.
The other problem is that when I bought the boat the guy told me that the power steering did not work. He told me that there was a broken line in the valve body. I am sure that this was part of why the cable broke. I have everything loose but cannot get the valve body out. There is one bolt that acts as a pivot for the steering control that I can't get loose. My question is how do you get this bolt loose. Also can I get a new cable assembly. Any help would be great.
