Ok so I've finished some of the projects. I have a couple of questions. (1) How do i tell if i have an alpha 1 or a bravo out drive its all been painted over? (2) on the top of my deck theres two wooden hand rails down the front of the boat, Does anyone know where i can get stainless steel hand rails for my boat?

If you have a 454, you have a bravo. A 350, then you have a alpha. By 88,they did away with the 454/alpha combo and started using the bravo.

Regarding SS rails- A couple guys on the board have parts boats. They'd probably be your best bet (or other salvage yards). The other option is to make them.

I had an 89 268 with 7.4L/Bravo Drive. Take a look on the lower Stb side of your engine for a belt driven water pump. A Bravo unit needs this pump. An Alpha has its own internal water pump so there will be no belt driven pump (just another way to confirm).
My 89 had stainless rails down the bow while a fellow boater's 1988 268 had the wood. Are you sure of the year? What are the last two digits of the hull serial number (Stb side of transom)? Perhaps 1989 was a transition year where changes were made during the model year's production??
