I just spent the last hour looking through all the documents I have from my Sea Ray boat (original owners kept it in a box on the boat). None of this documentation states what the oil is for the v-drive, but states it has to be changed annually (Oil analysis showed this was never done). But nowhere does the documentation state what the oil is. I found the engine oil specs, but not the transmission.

The Clymer book on "Inboard Engine, Transmission, and Drive" states that it is Dextron ATF. Not that I trust Clymer books, but is that the right oil for the transmission?

Do you know what engine and transmission are in your boat? What color is the fluid? Might not be easy to tell if it hasn't been changed in 22 years

No, I do not know what color it was when they tested it during the sea trials. It is the borg wanrer transmission. I did find their manual on the internet this morning which listed Dexron MErcon, Daimer-Benz or SAE 10. While writing this response, I though about the engine oil analysis that was done last fall, and pulled the doc. So I found may answer. Dexron.

So I guess I will go with that. I am going to drain all and replace.
