Does anyone know how to correctly confirm the bunks on their trailer? I have a great heavy duty trailer that is not correct for this boat but works ok to store body and move in and out as needed. But I want to haul my boat 1000 miles and I want it to be correct on the trailer. Diagrams? Blueprints? I'm not sure where to start.

Probably the smartest thing to do is contact some boat trailer dealers in your area and ask them what they think. Many have the capability of "bunking" the boat to the trailer. This consists of them lifting the boat off the trailer a few inches and adjusting the bunks to fit the boat. They also often have the capability of weighing everything and adjusting tongue weight.

You don't say what size the trailer is or what the axle ratings are but you want to make sure the bunks are not hitting any underwater perturbances and appear to be providing good support to the boat. You also should weigh the boat/trailer combined to know what you've got and then you may have to reposition axles to give you 10% of the towed load. You also want to make sure your trailer sits level when connected to the tow vehicle. And lastly check brakes and bearings for proper operation.

A trailer not set up properly for the load can ruin your day in a hurry. Also, if towing that far look at Boat US towing insurance. Everyone knows they tow your boat on the water but not many know they also offer towing service on land as well. It's only 15-20 bucks additional on your membership. AAA won't touch your boat trailer.

Let us know how it works out.
