1988 Sea Ray outboard motor

Hi - I'm looking at purchasing 1988 17' Sea Ray with original 100 hp "Sea Ray" outboard motor. What I seek to learn is who as the actual manufacturer of that 1988 motor? All of the motor is white with "Sea Ray" insignia on cowling sides.

I believe all of the Sea Ray outboards and out drives were made by Mercury.

Correct. Mercury outboard. Just had a custom paint to match the Sea Ray. fYI, there were, by the way, some non-Merc outdrives used over the years.

My 1989 came with the white out drive can't bring myself to painting it black. People will ask me about it when it's on the trailer.
