I'm looking for information on the stringer layout of this boat, I have half of the boat ripped apart now and found that the stringer up the left side of the boat was never glued to the haul and has float foam or structual under it about a half an inch full front to back. Any information from some one who has rebuilt one of these boat will be greatly appreciated. I am in the process of replacing the transom and motor mounts and all lumber up to the galley doors. I know the lay out for the side wood but not sure what to do about the long stringer, don't know if I should glue it to haul or put it back in the way I found it. I hate like heck to have to do this all again because of error.

I would make it symmetrical with the other side... which sounds like glued to the hull.

Best of luck and welcome to CSR!

Glue and tab. Use some thickened epoxy for the glue to take any irregularities. Maybe that foam was meant to be the glue? Whatever they did, that was 35-year old technology :)

My first post.... just bought my first Sea Ray (though I've had and worked on all kinds of boats my whole life), and found the wood in my transom is soaked! Looks like I'll have to replace it. I'm looking for any tips or better yet some good videos on the process. It's a 1986 268. Many thanks for any info or links!!

As for error project, I'd think stringers should be resined and tabed fast to the hull, then sealed and fastened completely with fiberglass.

Check out utube under Frisco boater he has an entire series on there doing a 220 sea ray boat totally. I have talked to many people on those stringers and they sad these are not the only boats made with stringers not glued down to the haul. I think they should be but I don't want to change the engineering of this boat. I am a wood butcher not an engineer...LOL I think it is the craziest thing I ever saw but they know better than this wood butcher.....I think I will partially tab the stringers in maybe every 3' or so about 1/2" above the haul before I put the foam to her. That should give it the original flex she had new. I think she would be to ridged if I totally glass them in.
