I recently purchased a 1988 Sundancer 270 (10' beam) with twin 5.7 Mercruiser Alpha One outdrives. They GM made engines run great but I am curious whether anyone knows if these engines were made in this era with Electronic Ignition as a standard?

There seems to be a difference of opinion as to if the did or did not come with conventional or electronic ignition. (My 1989 454cu Sea Ray Weekend came with Mercruiser Thunderbolt Electronic Ignition System, which I perfer.)

Here is a link to one of the most extensive lists of ignition parts for Mercruiser applications, which indicates it could have been originally provided in either configuration. They also list conversion kits to switch to electronic.

Hope this is helpful.
