With dual motors do you need to have a battery per motor or one battery for both

Just curious to the nature of your question...… My previous boat, 1988 300 Weekender the standard layout was 3 batteries.I would prefer at least one battery per engine. If one wont start hopefully the other one will. Add to that a crossover system and you can start /charge both batteries from one side or the other.
