My prior post had the wrong year in the title--sorry about that.

I am looking at a 1988 268DA with a single engine IO. It looks like a basic boat, no arch, single engine, no AC, no generator. What should I be on the lookout for as far as common problems or 'quirks' with this model year prior to getting a survey?

There are supports down in the engine room on either side of the engine. On the port side, the hot water tank and fresh water tank sits on it. Jump up and down on those side supports and see if they feel punky. Also, take a screw driver or ice pic and push at the transom from the inside about 6-8 inches away from the engine. If you pop through the inside glasswork, then the wood is rotten.

At that point, you are looking at about 6K if you do it yourself or 10K if you have someone replace the transom and stringers.

That is the major stuff to look for. The rest is piddly stuff that can be fixed yourself if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.
