The problem with a new Merc is they are around 7K. Check around on craigs list or boat junk yards you should be able to find a used unit for a few hundred.

New Merc 5.7 Long Blocks are about 2,200 - A complete Motor "with out tin" is about 4,200 to 4,600 depending on HP you want

With all the effort required to swap I would not want to install a "Junkyard Motor" and have it be garbage.

Just my thoughts....

Pretty good prices on that site, I was talking about a lower unit for the case and have it rebuilt with the right gears. My insurance got a quote to replace the lower unit with a new one from Merc and engine coupler it was over 9K they discounted it 10% for it being worked on the previous year that is why I sold it to the mechanic that was going to repair it, I got more that way then having it fixed and then trying to sell it.

Out of curiosity... With your boat being a "trailer queen", how hard is it to load and unload on a bunk style trailer? I ask this as I just bought a bunk trailer for my 268 and I'm not sure if I need to buy an electric trailer winch to along with it...
Great photos...keep 'em comin'...

EASY , my trailer has torsion axels so it sits low , Prestige called it self centering , and it is , i do mine by myself with ease , i dont have to crank it far at all , if the boat floats up to the crank i would be în to deep , and then it would not self center, gotta be just right like most trailers i have had . very easy to crank , i dont think the 20 footers i've had in the past were this easy.
