1988-1989 30 to 34 foot Sedan Bridge owners

Hello Oscarlyy and Searay 30

I am fairly new to this boat but have been spending all my available time enjoying it while working through my to do list. Any older boat needs a little TLC and mine was an estate purchase so all the owner knowledge was lost. The boat is a little quirky but, handles the water well and is spacious except for the engine access which is horrible. Multiple bilge areas is one challenge as well as access to the seawater pumps. My boat is equipped with twin 350 mercruisers so I would guess that you guys with the big blocks have even more of a challenge. Post a reply with your projects or questions and maybe one of us will have a suggestion or two.

Happy Wakes

Well I've only had mine 10 months and only put 100 hours on her but I absolutely love mine! Only complaint is engine access and fuel burn. But she handles chop amazing! I got mine just after the engines were completely overhauled and the owner payed 18000$ for that, so no issues with them yet. Um just now trying to keep on top of maintenance and start fresh and get to know the boat. Considered a 305 Sedan bridge and loved the long galley when there was no lower helm but didn't quite like the head in the stern. But I'm sure I could've got used to it. Yeah, I've got a small list going of mostly doing upholstery work and wood work. I'm slowly going through the boat upgrading fuel systems and electrical systems to modern systems. I'll post anything major that goes on in here with pictures and would love to see photos of your boat!

Hi guys, I have an 89 300 with big blocks, just had it out for bottom paint, through hulls, sinks, swim platform supports, trim tab cylinder converting to electric "bolt", next is to take out the carpet and install a wood plank floor. Eventually redoing the upholstery on the dinette and stairwell wall that wraps around to the lower bunk. 800 hours on the fwc 7.4 mercs, running great, have the 4.0 QuickSilver genset.

I used to have that same boat a 1989 300 Sedan with the big blocks. I bought it new back then, owned it until 1995. It was a great boat, handling well and the wife loved the galley better than on our current 420 Sedan. Port engine access was the worse from what I remember, having to remove the ice maker and half the dinette.

Well I'm going to try to resurrect this old thread. I have missed on a couple 34 sedan bridges. Considering a 1988 305 Sedan bridge. Would love some real world opinions. It is equipped with the small blocks. I had a 270 dancer with them and had plenty of power. Curious if the Sedan Bridge seems under powered with them?
It's also got the Mercury Gen Set. Not familiar with them as My dancer had an Onan. Thoughts?
From Pictures seems Very clean and well taken care of. I look at it next week so any input is welcome.

Twin, I had an '89 340 Sundancer with 454s but my marina neighbor had an '86 340 SD with small blocks. The boat was terribly underpowered and in fact would barely get on plane and that is if it was very lightly loaded. My friend used his as a trawler and never cruised faster than about 10-12 kts.

If you find one you like with small blocks make sure you go on a good long sea trial prior to finalizing the deal.

So I just went to the Sea Ray Owner Archives and looked for the 340DB. they only show, in the archives, an '85 & '86 and only that they have gas v-8 engines. No HP, no options.... Kind of weird. The '89 was a new configuration and one of our members, RonDDS owned one and complained constantly about the lack of power....and his was 454s.

Hello guys, I have an 88 345 sb and in the process of updating it. Its powered with big block 8.2 Mercs and seems to be powered well. Ive had so much on my plate that havent been able to spend a lot of time with her but just had my first voyage over the weekend and worked out pretty well with a couple of issues that were operator error but all in all a great day. All comments and suggestions are welcome, thanks!

If you have or used to have a Sedan bridge from the 88-89 vintage then let,s trade contact info and knowledge of the intricacies of these nifty little Searays!

Pete O’Brien here. I am in the Process of buying a 345 sedan bridge w/454’s. Survey sea trial will be done on the 26th. So far there is a small area of the hull about 8x36 inches about 3’ below the water line and on the center line. It was noted on a previous survey 3 urs ago. The rest is rock solid. I’ll let you know how the sea trial goes. The vessel is in Clayton NY. On the StLawrence River

Forgot to tell about the hull. Moisture reading was “very moist”. No percentage

had a survey conducted today on my perspective 1988 345 sedan bridge. Under the port engine there are two stringers one near the front of the engine and one just ahead of the joint for the prop shaft. This are is full of water. There are water marks like it has been an issue for quite some time. The starboard side is set up the same but it is dry as a bone and has no water line from water being in there. Any suggestions on why there is water there and no way for it to empty into the bilge to be pumped out?
