I contacted sea ray with my HIN number and they got back to me today "there pretty good about geting back to you fast :) "
But he responded and said they used 2 colors sand and oyster,Im assuming sand would be like a cream/beige color and oyster would be the color im after, but just reaching out if anyone else out there with a classic ordered and can confirm oyster is what I need?
Is oyster pretty much white?,my boat appears white and not like a dirty white or off white?

Can you post a good pic of your boat? I have a can of the gelcoat for my boat. Sea Ray ordered it off my hull number as well, i have the off white, i think it's the sand , i also think the oyster is a light gray but i could be wrong, tomorrow i'm going down to the storage unit and i will get the color off the can.

Sand was as white as it got in 86-87. Put a brown stripe on it and it looks a little brown. Put a black stripe on it and is the same color as a white Viking of that era. I re-striped mine because I wanted a white boat. The oyster is very definitely grayish in tone. Sort of like the full moon after the bright yellow color disappears and the moon is high in the sky.

just me,yea looks just like yours "not as pretty and clean :) " But yea I think thats it. Not gray thats for sure. sand should be it I guess,Im glad I asked because I would have bet my bottom dollar oyster would have been more white then sand jusdging by the name. How much is this stuff anyway?

Don't remember how much, they sure don't give it away. I will get the color code off the can tomorrow when i go to the storage.

you can also get ahold of spectrum colors for touchup gel coat paste .Mine is oyster

OYSTER color is best described as white with a slight grey tint to it. Sand is a white color, more best described as an off-white.

Oyster was Sea Rays standard with the green color optional hull striping along the side gunwhale; Sand was an option with the green color.

Sand was the standard with the Red and Blue color optional striping; Oyster was the option.

I remember that when I purchased my new 1988 in September of 1987 off the production of the Knoxville, TN plant.

That's how I remembered it.

My 88 was sand, after 20 years in the sun the areas that did not wind up under the cockpit cover were bleached white. You could see a night and day difference between the protected and unprotected areas. IMO go with a white repair kit if its on the outside and use sand if the repairs are in the cockpit.

I don't believe it worked that way. I think dealers ordered the colors they thought would sell in their markets. The colors were all standard. My boat was sand with brown stripes and brown sunbrella canvas which looked pretty good at the time. I don't doubt there were some sand wtih red and blue stripes but I don't remember seeing any around here, and our dealer sold lots of searays.

I ordered the repair kit,"30 bux shipped" now they told me the oyster is the more white in color and sand is darker? I aked if they were sure and they said yes,so I dont know? I guess we'll see? The quart size cost about 100 bux :smt101 I was going to get just to have around, but im not even sure of the color,as they were not either. So I hope everything works out

I have 87 Weekender my Gel Coat is oyster it is an off white
to get A true color I remove that piece teak on the side rail
that is used non skid step under it is the non faded color

I finally got around to using the spectrum gelcoat, and just letting everyone know Oyster was the color,It matched great!
That stuff is great,It matched great sanded easy and that looks great. The chunk missing on the keel,is filled in and looks like it never happened. Love This stuff!

Hey all, I also have a 1987 Sea Ray Sundancer 268, with the Blue stripe option. Did anyone figure out if it was oyster or sand as the white color?
Also any ideas what the Blue side stripe color would be?

I would go back to the contact in Customer Service and give him both numbers off the transom……the HIN# and the production number right below it. They should be able to look up your specific boat on their system and tell you the specific gelcoat colors used. If you just ask for the colors on a 1987 268, all he could do would be to tell you the 1987 colors, not the specific color on your boat.

i will look in th morning to see which one i bought but it isn't right. i think i bought oyster but have to check to be sure. my boat is like yours but with blue. the one i got was more grayish and definitely not a match

My old 300 Sundancer was sand colored. I verified it with Sea Ray Customer Service. The oyster color is darker.

looked at my gel coat paste today. it is oyster. more of a gray and definitely darker than mine. based off your pic and my experience i'd say you want sand color
