Hey all,

I have a 1985 sundancer 250 that I purchased last week. The boat is missing the transom bench seat. It has the bench seat at the helm, with aft facing twin fold down seats. This entire bench is above the aft cab on a slightly raised platform. I would love to tear out this seat and build something different. Kind of wish the door to the cabin was centered so I could have seats on either side, but that isn't an option.

Basically I am looking for seating options since the bench needs reupholstered.

Additionally, the boat has wooden side rails and these are getting in the way of rod holders. Are there any creative options there that will work with the existing rails? I would like holders to troll with 4 rods.

Thanks,
Max

We just bought an '85 270. Any pics of changes you made are appreciated.

Someone started to do a custom replacement for the bench seat but never finished. I wanted to do the same thing but because of the way our boats are set up with the seat off center, there wasn't a cost effective way to do it, short of just going with pedestals and eliminating the jump seats entirely. Having a custom set up would have been too expensive and I wondered how it would look if I did it myself.

If you don't have the old bench, you should be able to find one fairly easy at a boat salvage yard and have them reupholstered. Here's a thread I started:

The jump seat removal turned out really nice and the deck chairs are much more comfortable and if I need more room, I just stow them below. I also just dropped off the bench for reupholstery - $200 for the off season rate.
