I have arranged to have the above Sea Ray transported by road shortly and have been advised that the Radar/Antenna Arch will have to be removed before this can take place. Is this an easy operation and what is involved? The reason I am asking this question is that I am currently 100 miles away from the location of the boat and will not be present during the loading/unloading.

Lifting is the hard part. You will have to contract with a competent yard or dealer who has something bit enough to lift heavy weights at about a 12 ft height to remove the arch. Other than lifting, you have to cut caulking/bedding seams on the arch, unbolt several large bolts, take down the canvas and bimini frame, remove electronics from the arch, protect the insturment panel and console from moisture damage........figure a haul out , blocking, ($8/ft) 3-4 hours to remove the arch ($100/hr) , you should be there if at all possible to insure that all fasteners are kept and labled. The cost in our area would be $1400-$1800. If everything is dumped in a bucket and sent on with the boat, you will be paying for just the reverse service on the other end, which means you will be paying yard labor rates to try to figure out what the sending yard did and how they did it aas well as what fastener goes where. The cost on the receiving end is usually more since it takes longer to reinstall the arch and make sure the electronics work than t does to disassemble it. INcluding launching the boat, figure $2000 to $2500 on the receiving end.

Also, depending upon what electronics there are on the boat, you may even need to involve an electronic technician to remove antennas, radar array, lighting etc. Its not brain surgery; in fact, its pretty simple stuff to do. It just gets real expensive if the sending yard doesn't address reassembly as they take the boat apart. If they just clip cables and wires, for example, you will be paying for connectors, new cables, etc. on the other end.

Try to figure a way to make the 100 mile trip to supervise the disassembly.......you'll pay for it if you don't.

Try to pick a good dry day to move the boat. Cleaning road film off every surface on a 34 ft. boat is a lot of work.
