1985 260 Sundancer Re-Inserting PlexiGlass Sliding Windows

Hi All,
I purchased a 1985 260 Sundancer about 5 weeks ago and have working on it ever since readying it for the water. I am in the process of replacing the old brittle and disintegrating window channel material (flocking) that the sliding windows slide in. Once I remove the old flocking the sliding windows will lift up and come right out, but after I put in the new flocking I can't put the windows back in the same way I took them out. Does anybody know the trick to doing this? Appreciate any info from someone who has done this before.
Thanks

Have not done it before - but believe that the frame has to be taken out - I will then "flex" enough to put the windows in then you place the complete frame and window back in place (with plenty of sealant).
Heather (Spookeay Marine) know more about those windows than most people here... she might chime in , if she is not out on the water.

I have the same problem with my '86 300. I am planning on removing the entire window frame once the boat is in its indoor winter storage birth. Where did you get the window channel flocking?? I want to order that and a bunch of the rubber they used as a screw cover. Dan

cannot get the screw cover rubbers anymore, flocking from taylormade systems, also will need rv window ribbon sealing tape, and lots of lacquer thinner to clean with.also use clear life caulk when reinstalling.some screws are shorter and all screws need to go back where they came from.start the reinstall at the front and work your way back have a friend follow to clean up the mess and remove the tape you put down first, its easier to clean off extra caulk than to reseal it again.put the window in first then the flocking.

Welcome to the Club. Lots of info here. Congrats on your purchase. I have the exact boat. My windows leak where the frame meets the hull. Somebody previously filled the window channels with caulk thinking thats where it leaked and I could not open the windows. I dug most all of that out so now the sliders work for the most part. For now, I bought some Grady White Silicone which is light beige in color. After a good surface compound and de-wax around the window, a nice thin bead ought to seal it for now. Eventually, I am going to remove and re-seal both sliders.

I took my frames out this spring and resealed them with buytl tape. I ended up through bolting several of the bolts at each end to get a good seal. I also used the next size larger screw (#6 I believe) when reinstalling. Some of the screws are a bit longer and screw into the head wall bulkhead and some interior trim pieces so keep an eye on the size screw you're removing.

Re: 1985 260 Sundancer Plexiglass Sliding Window Re-Install

Hey all,
I figured out how to put back the sliding windows after installing new flocking. I took out the plexiglass sliding window, , cleaned the old flocking out of the channels and put new flocking into the upper channel. Then I put in the plexiglass and move it (far left) where it would be in the channel when closed. Then I lubricate the bottom piece of flocking with soap and water and while holding the plexi up tightly into the upper channel I slide the flocking underneath the plexi till it is complete underneath it.

I bought the flocking from Taylor Made Systems (518)773-0636. It's not cheap at $5.08/ft plus $25 handling fee plus shipping, but it is the same stuff that was used in 1985 when the boat was built. I've attached a diagram of the flocking from Taylor Made and a photo of what I sent them to explain what I needed.
