Hey all,
I have a question about my '85 230 Cruiser. I'm sure some of you are familiar with the gross/retro shag carpet that is on the ceiling and sides of the cabin. Well, it's gotta go, it's seen better days. What's underneath it? Fiberglass?

If so, what material do you recommend covering the Fiberglass with in the cabin once I've ripped up the carpet?

Here's an example: http://images.craigslist.org/5Nd5E85Ja3k43Id3N3c6u9b4820712f2d1793.jpg

Thanks!

I like the idea of being able to wipe things down. I recommend a “leatherette” material and have it upholstered.

As for underneath, I bet it is just glued down or you would have sags after a decade or so. I have a 1985 390 and it isn't sagging. Don't you know that the shag is there to keep your chewing gum on for the night? Just peel it off the next morning and you're smacking again!

You can get an upholsterer to make beautiful designs in it by sewing different colors together. You can find these guys at custom car shows all the time and also examples of their work. I have a guy here on the west coast, he is really into it and does beautiful work.
