I am in the process of repairing the motor mount stringer of a 1984 SeaRay 197. It seems the motor mount was a 4x4 or 4x6 piece of wood surrounded by 2x8 pieces of wood. I could use some suggestions on how to best repair the motor mount stringers. I'm a newbie and would hate to tackle this issue next year. I plan on putting a couple layers of resin on the wood I use. Any more suggestions are welcome

Go to Friscojarett(?sp) you tube video's(mid 90's SeaRay Resto). Very, very good. Also you can go over to classicMako site and those guys will certainly help you. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas, JC

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FINISHED HEIGHT
Well, they rotted from water intrusion. Find that hole first. Make sure the entire area is dry, portable heater ,heat gun or hair dryer. The outer blocking support must be in perfect condition or replace it at this time.
Use poplar or oak blocks. A fireplace mantel place might have scraps. Fit the blocks and remove them, coat them in 2 coats of resin and set aside.Try to make the replacement block fit as snug as possable.
Resin coat the outer supports, resin coat the new motor mount wood and install, fill any gaps with some chopped glass and resin, let cure.
Place 5-8 layers of glass cloth on the mount and resin in place. Temporarily install motor, spray paint the mounts to locate the holes, remove motor and pre-drill lag holes. Next step is CRITICAL
Warm up some resin ,add hardener , mix quickly and pour into newly drilled holes untill full. This resin will help seal the holes against water that might get past the lags. redrill pilot holes.
Install lags with 5200
