I am new to boating and picked up a 1984 Monaco for Very Cheap. Everything runs great on the boat but am confused about an electrical issue. The electrical motor that drives the I/O up and down (not the trim) for towing and driving works fine. However, when trying to make it work from my controls it doesn't. I have to take a piece of wire and go from the battery to the solenoid and make it go up or down by hitting the respective solenoid. With that, the wires that come off the solenoid are large wires and start tracing up to the controls. At the controls different wires come off them. I’ve LOOKED and LOOKED for where they meet. They are not meeting beneath the dash at the electrical box. I’m hoping someone knows the secret hiding place on this boat without me having to rip it apart. I’m getting very tired of burning my hands making the motor go up and down with wires. :)

Sea Ray does not have the owners manual for this boat.

Thanks!

Electrical Problems

Chris,

I had to replace the solenoids on my last Sea Ray 230 Weekender.

The two most common problems you will find (if the pump is working well) are the solenoids and/or the switch on the controls. Therefore-Ask yourself these questions and it should help you.

Are you bypassing the solenoids when you use the jumper wires?
Are you tripping the solenoids mannually to activate them when you use the wires?

Also note the switch on the controls wears out some times. Have you tried by passing the switch at the controls to see if that is failing?

I hope this information is helpful
