I was given a 1981 SRV 255 Sedan Bridge. I can't find a service manual to fix this thing. I was told the motors worked about two years ago. The fella passed away about then and the boat sat until I got it yesterday. It needs new upholstery and decking - I can do all of that. I need a mechanics service book to go through and learn each system, identify wiring issues and especially see if the boat will start. Can anyone tell me how to determine if the engines are in working order? I was told the engines have to be in a bucket before they can be started because they are water cooled. Okay, how much water or buket size and how do I start it or just turn the engines over to make sure they aren't froze up?All assistance welcome - especially where to find the service manual. Thanks

You can purchase Mercruiser guides for you engine/drive package at West Marine for starters. The best way to get water into the engine while out of the water is with a pair of "muffs" that go ever the intake holes on the outdrive. A garden hose is connected to the muffs. However, don't try and start those engines without first changing the impellors in the water pumps in the outdrive. After sitting that long the existing ones are no good and you will not get cooling water to the motors.

Using the guide you just bought at West Marine, I would first get the drives in proper order and then start on the motors.
