1981 Sea Ray Sundancer won't shift/running hot. Lower removed

I only know all this because of having to rebuild both of my outdrives and removing one of them twice. The only thing I regret not doing is replacing both shift bellows I think one may be leaking.

Yeah that sucks. I am amassing parts as we speak..

That was not the style mine had. It was 3 pieces. That looks like a 2 piece and maybe for a 4 cyl? I believe the engine has to come out. It is also a good idea to check the mating surface of the Y pipe to transom assembly as well. It is known to be a bad spot for corrosion and can become a boat sinker. Do you have the Mercruiser s/n?

I think I found the drawing. Ugh, it looks like it is at the bottom of the boat close to the Transom.

Going to start drinking now and avoid the Christmas rush...

That looks closer. Here is a pic I found of the one that was in mine before I pulled it and upgraded to the Bravo 2.

That is for the outdrive the one for the engine is on the engine. I made up a three binder with all the imformation about the outdrives and engines with all their models and sn#'s plus some repairs that are common, all the insurance and registration docs and anything else that may come in useful. This comes in handy when ordering parts when a sn# is needed, no need to go out to the boat and grub around the engine looking for numbers. I have twin 470's and the shutters are in the top of first pipe. Other than having to drill out a rivit and replace it with a bolt and getting the shutter to slide into position it wasn't to bad. Your setup looks like it could be a little difficult and hard to get at.
