Hi there. I am new to this forum and have recently purchased a 1981 sea ray. I am not sure of what model this boat is, on the title it is just stated as a 24'5" sea ray with cuddy cabin. I live in northern MI and will be using this boat for fun and fishing. I have a few questions about the boat and will have a few posts in the other areas regarding these things. Thank you all in advance for your help and I hope to be able to be a help at some points as well, and maybe even be able meet some of you out on the water as well.

Welcome aboard!

Look below your HIN# for model designation. HIN is located on rear, starboard corner - usually right below the rubrail.

Or, look on Sea Ray's website, under the "archives" section for 1981. Start looking at pictures until you see one that matches your boat.

Do you have a "mid cabin"? If so, it's a Sundancer.

I have been on the archive page from Sea Ray and I haven't seen one that matches the length of my boat. But from looking through google images I am led to believe it is a Sundancer 245. It is currently at a friend of mines who is a marine mechanic. He is replacing the shift cable that goes from the moter to the outdrive. He is also looking into why I have a cruising speed of about 22mph. I am told it should be more so in the upper 20's. I believe that my prop may be incorrectly sized and I think I should post a question asking what the proper size would be for this application.
Thank you very much for the warm welcome.

Cruising speed sounds fine. Although, it might help to know the engine and drive size/configuration, 'ya know? Also, what is your WOT RPM with a light load?

Look at the pictures in the archive section. You should be able to match it up that way.

You are "trimming up" to get your WOT, correct?

That cruise speed vs RPM sounds fine.

just wide open and trim tabs adjusted, but not trimming the motor. I was told by two others whom said that they had the same boat in the past and they both thought they had a cruising speed of upper 20's. That is why I was figuring mine is incorrect.

Trim it up. You should be able to spin up to somewhere between 4400 - 4800 rpm. Again, with a light load.

Also, get going to your 3100rpm and whatever speed that gives you. Don't touch the throttle, just start slowly trimming it up. Can you guess what's going to happen? :smt001

ummm....... i get to go faster?

Bingo. I was making light of the situation, so please don't take any offense - but, I assume you already knew that trimming up will increase speed, right?

Ya, I was playing along.

I have been "boating" for my life. This is however my first cuddy cabin. I am not too use to the, large, comfy, take your time getting there ride. But I think I will find it very enjoyable

Nothing wrong with "vintage".

See what it does top end when you're trimmed up. We'll go from there.
