Wondering if one of you guys with early 80's 260 DA's could post some pics of the rear bench seat. Long story short, mine is missing and I would like to make one. If you could include the measurements that would be great. I have the L Shaped cusions that go on top but not the bench part that hooks into the deck. Well, I think it hooks into the deck on the two chrome brackets on either side of the engine hatch, but since mine is missing I dont really know.

The more detail the better!!

Thanks in Advance!
Billy

There is a company on eBay remanufacturing the hooks. I saw them yesterday. They are not chrome but black. I have an '81 260. Mine is not the original but looks good. I'll take some pics and measurements for you.

Thanks Guys I really appreciate it.

Coral-Any idea what those guys on ebay are listing them under? Cant seem to find them.
Thanks
Billy

Thanks Mike that does help. Wow from the looks of your pics it sits really low to the ground. I would have thought the bottom of the bench would be atleast 2 feet off of the deck. Am I missing something or does your bench sit like 6 inches high?
Thanks,
Billy

I does sit low, the back coushions are even with transom.I plan on making a new narrower frame to fit the two large coushions with out the console ,be able to use the transom door with out steping on the seat .

Yea, our's is low too. I can slide a coleman stove under it but need to lift it up a bit first. Plus any taller and it would interfere with opening the engine hatch when shoved forward me thinks. Entry & exit requires that one step on the bench and that has caused the seam to start to seperate over time. And its HEAVY, to roll over and scoot to gain access to the engine bay. If you make one, make it light and let the hardware hold it down.

The rear seat on my 30' Sundancer sits really low too. It is a flip down. You lift the padded back portion and flip the rear seat and it's legs down, then let the seat back fall into place.

I just bought a 1980 Sundancer 245 that has been amazingly restored, with a great custom rear bench built (at least i don't think it was stock). It is a lot higher than the ones discussed here- it seems like normal height. And it isn't the normal flip-down flimsy style like other 80's Sundancers. If anyone wants I can take some pics. Let me know.

SeaSharp,
I would love to see pics of your bench. Also If you want to be really nice and throw in some measurments I would really appreciate it!
Thanks,
Billy

After looking closer, I realized it really isn't that high... but it seems normal I guess. Also I realized I only measured the width, and didn't measure front-to-back- I'll do that next time I'm out. As you can see, it is hinged so that the edges can be lifted up to climb in/out without stepping on the bench.

Here are the pics - I'm trying to figure out what the fasteners are in the last pic- there isn't any hardware to fasten them together.

Oh, and also, this bench does not fasten to the deck at all as far as I can tell. I think the hooks and fasteners around the seating are for the full camper top.

Hope these help!

Wow! That helps alot, thanks! That is wierd that the rear bench does not fasten to the deck at all, you would think it would slide around.

Hey Guys,
I finally got around to making the rear bench and wanted to thank you all for your help. I only had the L-Shaped cushions in the original nasty brown to work with and made everything else. My mom ended up doing the vinyl on the whole boat and it looks pretty good, especially for the money I saved. One guy wanted to charge me 400 bucks just to make the bottom bench seat cushions. I paid 40.00 for the foam and 70 bucks for a 30 yrd roll of vinyl and that did all the exterior cushions and side panels on the boat including the captains chair. So I made out pretty good :) She had a hell of a time with the L shaped cushions so I may take those to a boat guy and have them redone but everything else looks great! Anyway here's a pic, can't wait to see it on the boat!

Thanks Again,
Billy
