1980 Sea Ray Sundancer MR lower Water Pump rebuild

Rebuilt my lower assembly water pump (rebuilt according to the exploded IPB view on Sierra) but it's pretty tight now. I can barely turn the shaft to get the prop to turn, but it does. Is that right? Is this just a function of the brand new impeller being super stiff??

Any input much appreciated.

Did you lube the new impeller with dish soap or silicone grease?

If it’s in there dry it would create the resistance you mention.

Err, no I didn't. Missed that in the rebuild instructions. Is is critical?

I see it in the manual now. Guess I could squirt some down the water tube?

I don’t think that’s necessary since once you start it the water will lube and cool it.

It does make it easier to initially install though, but since you’re past that...
