The Bravos only requires 2 additional holes drilled (at the top) for additional studs from what the alphas use. That was it. It all slid right in. Engine mounts as well dropped into the same spot. You do have to add a raw water pump on the engine though when going to Bravo as you know. My hull already had the engine mounted pump along with a thru hull teed into it's supply, so was an easy upgrade. I picked up a complete take out from someone converting to outboard so it came with the Y and shift linkage. Shift cable from helm hooked right up to it.

019.JPG Here's a pic after the 2 holes drilled. You can see the outline of where the Prealpha was where I touched up the gel coat

Interesting.... My Cobalt always begged for more power but a big block motor just wasn't going to fit under the engine cover. In the early 90's when I first thought about it the Alpha was really the only drive thought available.

Now, there is a lot more power being produced by the small block motors but I didn't feel changing the entire drive financially practical. But this sheds new light. And, my jackshaft components match up with the Bravo units. I was told just this week that this is what Mercruiser uses in Go-Fast boats when they stagger the engines or install triples with the center motor ahead of the outboard two.

I hope to have the boat finished and in the water by the middle of April so I will have to see what the performance is like with the SEI outdrive. They state, unofficially, their drive will handle the estimated 350-400 HP my motor produces. Nice to know the Bravo is an option.

    Thanks
    Shawn
