Hello everyone,
I am new here. I just purchased a 79 sundancer 260 a month ago. Thought I was getting a good deal but now I wander...
The day we tested it before buying it the engine blew up. The owner replaced it with a rebuilt 350 ho marine engine from advance and I have the reciept and 1 year warranty. $2100..we again test drove it...the foot went bad... the owner replaced it with rebuilt one i have reciept $1200...test drive again spun a prop....got new one...test drive again all is good...First day on lake 2 hours into the day...new engine slings a rod.... advance swaps it out labor and all under warranty...I also have new throttle and upper shift cable replaced...2 weeks later 2nd time out 6 hours into the day and the new prop spins.. no problem marina open replaces it under warranty...1 hour later rebuilt foot goes out again. Get it replaced under warranty and back in the water..wont even back off trailer lower shift cable breaks..got that replaced yesterday, supposed to pick up and head to lake today and mechanic calls and says shifter is bad as well..I pick up new one have it installed and it still wont go in gear...something wrong in the lower unit again...but they are closed for the holiday so no boat this weekend = angry wife! the boat has new rebuilt engine, rebuilt outdrive and foot, starter, water pump, impeller, prop, all new shift and throttle cables and new shifter and I still can't use it and have been stranded twice and Ive only used it twice...any ideas? It came with a nice 2007 tandem trailer and I gave $6000 and paid only for the prop and the seller gave me the reciepts for everything else. what to do what to do

Find a new mechanic.

Seriously, Your too deep into it now to back out, but as long as it's all under warranty, keep plunging at it till it's right. Attrition says you will get a good every thing soon,

Hang in there! YOu will have a nice boat. It takes time to work out the problems on these older boats, but, once you learn it you will be happy and confident.

I just splashed my 88' 300 and discovered water leaking into the bilge from somewhere on the transom mount on the port motor (after a lot of hard work to get it ready for the water). I am not giving in, we will figure it out and have a nice boat.
