Yep those are the rails I was talking about! As always Jim you are a wealth of information! Jim had a 1978 SRV 240 just like yours that he did an entire restoration on, similar to mine. He did a top notch job as well! He has been a great help to me will info on things that I wasn't sure about and even helped me out with a hatch lid he had laying around! If you need dimensions on some of the items you are missing, let me know!

    Hi Robert & Jim,

The snow may just be thawing soon where I have my boat up in Michigan and I am dying to start working on my '78 SRV 240. Jim's Pics really helped me understand what to do about restoring the missing rear seats, and that will be one of the first things I do. But before I jump into making the rails and the cushions and such, I had a few more basic questions if you don't mind. First of all, my boat came without any batteries. I'm pretty new to boating and I was wondering what type of Marine battery you recommend?

Also, this may be a silly question, but is the sink on board just cold water? Or is there a water heater?

Jim, I did have a question about the aft area above the aft seats. I see you attached some wood behind where the back rest cushions go, was that so that you would have something to hook them on to?

    Thanks!

Re: 1979 SRV 240 Weekender Resto - Birth Cushion?

Guys, I have one more question please. The 1978 SRV 240 I bought should have a V-Birth filler center cushion, but mine did not come with one. Does it go the whole length of the birth? And does the table drop down to support it or do I need to build some sort of a support?

    Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the pics of the cushions and explanations!! My apologies for the delay in responding. This is a huge help. I'm going to start working on the boat Easter weekend (the weather hasn't been cooperating here so far.) With those pics I now know what to do about both the seats and missing birth picks.

    Hi Again,

I made it up to Michigan where my boat is stored and spent Easter weekend working on it.

I'd bought it over the winter and while I compression tested the engine did not get a chance to fire it up before purchase. So the big thing I was nervous about was if the engine actually worked. After replacing a few spark plugs, it fired up and purred light a kitten! What a relief. I measured for the stern side seat rails and cushion support boards that were missing (THANKS AGAIN FOR THE PICS!) , installed a GPS/Fish-finder, radio, and made a few other minor repairs. Overall, I can't believe what good shape the boat is in and I can't wait to take her out for the first time.

Something still has me stumped about the interior cushions. Now that I've been on board again I figure out why that is. At some point the separate birth cushions on mine were replaced with two large cushions (one on each side) that overlap with the edge that should support the middle drop-in cushions. (There is no longer room for them.) I think I'll have to re-make all of the cushions as per the originals. Do the drop in Cushions have wood backings to support them when they drop in? (like the outside ones?)

I'll attach a picture shortly. With all of the other work I've yet to do on the boat, I may hold-off on the interior which is in good shape other than the missing cushions and faulty lights. (no power to the cabin or bathroom lights) The under shelf accent lights work.

    Thanks again,
    Mark

    Hi Jim,

Well I didn't do a perfect job, but I made new side seats. The center (over engine) seat I have not yet re-covered, but actually the fabric is fairly close in color so it looks ok. Not a perfect job.... but now we have a place for everyone to sit!! Thanks for your help

Looks real nice and comfy, which is really what matters most.

Ive been looking at 240WE's like this but none Ive found have 350ci only 305's or 302's which is woefully underpowered. Imagine a 383 in one of these babies!

I know this is an old thread; however, I wanted to ask rawright if during your refurb of your boat, did you have to rebuild the engine cover or rear seats? Mine are missing and was hoping to hear of your experience, if you had to re-make them. thank you
