Hello!

Thanks for any help - first and foremost! I appreciate any support I can get here! We're looking to purchase our first boat. I found an old Sea Ray on craiglist. His ad stated V187 (1978) however I read the brochure on the Sea Ray site and it reads as being an SRV-187 so that's what I'm assuming it is.

I've talked to the owner - he claims a rebuilt engine 4 years ago (he did not do it himself - previous owner did. Engine looks clean in pictures). He did say that the carb needs to be rebuilt as when it's on plane that the engine is starved for fuel - says something with the float. On land has no problems he states. If it truely was rebuilt, and hopefully well - would there be anything more to look at? He has it in the water now so we can take it out.

The interior was also redone with new carpet and seats - though they didn't do the front/back lounge seats - they did single seats up front for the passenger and driver. They do not have front cushion seats for the bow - just fiberglass. I would think that these can be made or found? He also states that the wiring inside was re-ran - though he says the horn does not work. New bilge pump(s), etc too.

Aside from that it's a yellow boat with some faded fiberglass he said. I'm asking for better pictures as what he has are not detailed enough to make a decision on.

Is there anything anyone can recommend about a boat like this - was this even a decent model at the time - or worth my time to to investigate more?

It seems to fit my budget - but I want to make the best decision I can - which is why I'm asking for the help from others!

Thank you! Tony

I have a 76 SRV200 that runs and handles great. Though the boat is heavy at 3000# it gets on plane with on problem. Very stable in the water.
A compression test is a must. This will let you know the condition of the motors rotating and valve stock. All cylinders should be close in measurement with no cylinder more then 10 - 15% lower than the others. You should have the transom checked out for dry rot or moister damage. This can happen around the outdrive or any mounting hole that has been made in the transom. The outside gel coat and fiberglass may seem intact but a check of the interior transom area may reveal otherwise. Just a few areas to check.
