Hi all well I bought a Ser Ray and I am going through it found one freeze plug out all the pitcock valves were open. I put on a rubber plug closed valves put water to it and ?? stat stays in the normal but then I pulled the hoses they were dry? I increased the water to the muffs but I do not know. checked engine water pump it is ok does the pump in the out drive prime the system? I checked the oil in the outdrive it is dark green the bucket I put at the prop to stop the water from going into the garage and when I grabbed the bucket it had a small hand full of carbon in it? thanks for reading and any advice you have is welcome

I am going to assume that you have an one drive I think they called that model an 888. You say you found a freeze plug out? Out of the block? Open the pet cocks and see if any thing comes if not stick some thing in it to see if it is open because they will fill with dirt and rust and plug up. I would think the pump in the out drive needs to turn to get water in the block. you can take the hose that feeds the block from the out drive and hook the water that way to check the engine. The water pump on the block circulates the water through the block. The oil sounds like it is good it is when it is milky that you have to worry also pull the prop to make sure that there isn't any fishing line rapped around the shaft it will eat the shaft seal. The carbon would be from the exhaust coming through the hub. Here is a link that showes parts.
