on the switch panel there is a switch that says pump , the boat does not have a water supply system but I can here a pump running in the engine compartment when i turn it on. can anyone tell me what its for

That would be your bilge pump .

Bilge pump is a different switch this one is marked water pressure

Well I see you've edited your original question for clarity at one time you may have had a fresh water tank and a po removed it go open up the bilge and find were the hum is coming from take a pic and we'll see if we can help
