Here's a link to a video showing the restoration...http://youtu.be/eOPCdO1SBuo

I'd post more photos here but I think you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out an efficient way to upload photos to this website

Very nice! Thanks for sharing!

Outstanding! thanks for sharing. (it's 2014 for gads sake, you'd think posting a simple pic would be simple!??!)

Was that the same boat in the video from the begining? Is that the same family?

Yes it's the same boat and family from the start, it's been with us since it was new

That's very touching. I wish I could find the boat Dad had when I was small.
Cool video. Enjoy the memories all over again.

Very nice!! Old boats are the BEST boats!!! as I always say...........

Very nice restoration. The wood part of the motor cover. Did you redo that yourself or buy it new? I have a 71 with the similar motor cover and its peeling and im not sure what to use to fix it.

The engine cover is actually original and was one of the pieces that survived well. I just looked at and it's just a 1/8" piece of laminate. It's a veneer and looks plastic which I don't think you'll find a match for but you could recover it with 1/8" teak laminate that can be purchased at your local lumbar yard (probably special order) and should be in the $140 range. The teak laminate would be a much better match to the trim around the inside of the hull as well. It would just be a matter of carefully peeling the old off so you don't damage the wood underneath then gluing and trimming a new piece to fit. Should be able to find lots of how to vids on youtube if you type in wood veneer.

My old hatch cover was also laminate. I padded and covered it in the same vinyl that I covered the engine cover in. (see profile pics)
I also covered my hatches up front but with no padding.

Thanks for the help. Your interior restoration looks great. I will check into the wood veneer. The padded lid looks good but I want to stay with the original look of the boat.

searayfan, I can understand wanting it to be original. We have the grand kids jumping on and off the swim deck so the padding works well for us. Good luck with yours.
