1966 SRV180 O/B Black Beauty Resto

sorry for the no progress updates but all the snow..busy at work and sub-zero temps have kept me out of the unheated garage

I missed the original post. Looks very cool. Working in a cold shop sucks. The torpedo heater helps. However it is only warm in front of the heater....

BACK TO WORK !!!!!!!

this s after one round of heavy cut compound
pink goo and polish to follow
I also stripped out the das and fuel tank and cleaned out the insides getting ready for floor repairs and new carpet
Back On Track since the weather finally broke !!

Its alive!!

shiney shiney.

Those old straight 6 Mercs were bullet proof..........I tried, unsuccessfully, to wear out a couple of them dragging skiis all over Tennessee and Okla lakes. MAybe by the time you are done, we can talk Sea Ray into another Homecoming where we can see it.

Yeah - in our house growing up me and my father were Mercury guys, grandfather was a Johnson man (he hated Evinrude, and we didn't even mention Chrysler - go figure), it was an on going battle! Had two different Mercury 9.8's on a little skiff that we literally put 1000's of hours on, same with the Johnson 115 V4 on the 15ft Glastron - remember the Glastron in the old James Bond movie "Live and Let Die" ? That's what we had. The issue was finally solved when we got the Correct Craft inboard ski boat. The last 9.8 (a 1982) was still running when it got stolen out of our boathouse 3yrs ago.

Black Beauty really is a beauty - that big old tall black Mercury brings back a lot memories - I can smell it start up and hear it running!

AHH... That would be so much fun! I'll never forget meeting you (Frank), Rusty, Mopar Jim, CSR Jim, Lucky, AMFM, and a number of other CSR friends at "The Homecoming" we had.

Jim, Black Beauty is a beauty. Hope to see her in person when she is done.

Well yesterday she emerged from the tomb I call my garage for the first time in nearly 2 years to see the daylight and get a well needed bath before continuing on
By the end of day when the rains came she was cleaner and the old floor tout and new installed ... not glassed in yet but that will be this week I hope

still have lots more sand and buff to do but headway is being made and should be on the water still this year

Looking good - I drift back in time when I see that boat, a big ol Merc firing up in an old wooden boathouse, smelled almost as good as fried chicken.

Looks great! I really enjoy folks willing to resurrect the old classics. Please keep the photos coming, it gives us other folks the courage to press on with the old gals we are keeping from the scrap heap.
