195 Sport with 4.3 - Prop Chang?

Has anyone with the 195 sport (I have a 2006) with the 4.3 engine changed their prop to a different one? If so, was it same diameter? pitch? 3 or 4 blade?

Also, how does it affect the performance? take off (time to plane? pulling skier/boarder?) Top speed?

I just recently changed mine from a 19p 3-blade to a 21p 3-blade and picked up about 7mph on the top end. I did notice a slight difference comming out of the hole though, especially with a full load of people. Not sure if you have the 190hp TKS model or the 220hp MPI (which is what I have). The stock 19p was way too small for me, I was hitting the revlimiter at about 2/3 throttle. Still considering going to a 23p 4-blade as I still hit the revlimiter before hitting WOT.

Very strange I have the same motor and same drive ratio in a 185, and I don't come close to any limiter with a 21p. In fact I am way over propped can't even hit past 4400rpm. :huh:

I knew a Ping Chang and a Zheng Chang, but not Prop Chang. Do you think they're related? Some of those Asian names sure sound funny.

I don't have a 195 but my boat is close to the size of yours I think. For comparison purposes, my beam is 8'6" and the dry weight is 3,000 lbs FWIW.

I recently changed from the stock Black Max aluminum 3-blade 21P to a Stilleto Bay Pro II 4-blade SS 20P prop. I still keep the Black Max as a spare prop in the boat.

After making the change, I think I lost maybe 1 mph on the top end, although even that is debateable and who rides at WOT for very long anyway? However, the low end acceleration and time to plane was improved as was the handling especially when tubing or kneeboarding. Around this time I also added Smart Tabs which helped with the time to plane.

The one thing I have noticed is that the 4 blade prop is more susceptible to motor trim position. You have to "dial it in" to just the right trim angle to get the optimal acceleration and handling improvements. Otherwise the prop will spin when trying to make sharp curves. Of course, YMMV.

For what its worth, I have the 190hp in a 185 Sport. I run a 23p High Five prop and i hit 4800 rpm before WOT. it seems that WOT is around 5200 rpm, but I did keep it there for very long. The whole shot is great (adding smart tabs soon) and I can get to the low 50s on the speedo with two people in the boat.

I see you have a tower and you mention adding smart tabs. I've heard the two don't mix very well. I've read that the tabs will flatten out your wake, which may not be good for wakeboarding. Just something you might want to look into.

I have heard that it will flatten out the wake some, but we are just amateur boarders. We don’t do anything too crazy, well not on purpose anyway.
And the Admiral would like the smother ride…. And what the Admiral wants… the Admiral gets. :grin:

you can flip them up very easily....

I also have a 185 Sport. I went to my marina today to get another prop as a spare. I was surprised to know that the stock prop is a 23 pitch.

I was kinda suprised too.
When I plug my numbers into Merury Prop Selector, it recomends a 25P.
