I hit some granite and took out my prop (& damaged skag pretty good) as I was accelerating from a stopped position. The alarm immediately started sounding. No contact to the gear casing above the skag. I had to drive the boat about .5 miles back to our dock and it ran fine. I replaced the prop & checked the gear lube level, but the alarm is still sounding whenever the engine is running.

I can't find the cause, any thoughts?

pain in the butt to figure out. I think on those there is 3 or 4 alarms that it could be. you can start with unpluging one of the wires from the gear oil bottle. and see if it goes off. also try it with the oil alarm switch and temp alarm. if not those I would have to look at a motor at my shop to look around and try to figure it out.

Should I be concerned at all that I actually damaged the engine from hitting the rocks? It seems unlikely to me given that all gauges read normal and I've driven at high speed for quite a distance?

Is there anything in the lower unit that I could have damaged creating the alarm condition?

I can't think of anything that would sound an alarm from hitting anything. DFo you have an external depthfinder? did whatever you hit maybe hit the depth finder and that is what the alarm is?

if you have a key switch that you can turn backwards to turn only the depthfinder on and not the motor that will see if the alarm sounds and would mean that its the depth finder. if you don't you can go under the dash and see which horn is sounding. if the wires from the horn are red and black and are very thin its the depth, if the wires are purple and tan than its the motor alarm.
