185 Sport Thread....

Speaking of stereo remotes.... where are your wired remote controls located on the stock 185? I purchased a new CD/radio last summer and it came with a really nice wired remote. But I was never sure where to drill the hole and permanently mount it, so I haven't yet. The radio is in the glovebox... I was thinking either the helm somewhere, or maybe nearer the stern of the boat somewhere. I think I've seen them close to the swim platform, for access when in the water, but we don't use ours that much to benefit from it.

Thanks,

Tom

Gunn... Here is where the factory location for the remote is on a 185.

Here's how we finally got both items installed - I'm not thrilled but we'll see how it goes - taking her out for the first time tomorrow! Can't wait.[/img]

That is alot of crap to pack onto the minimal dash space of the 185. I wish we had more dash space. While we are at it, I would take more storage space too.

Dotty, did you mention what model of Garmin you installed? I dont recall seeing it. I am just about to make a purchase of a dedicated chartplotter for my new '08 185 sport and was wondering what model that was...

I currently have a Raymarine color GPS in my big boat and want the same functionality for this one. The color screens are super easy to see in sunlight and have great clarity. Granted I cant get Raymarine for this one, but I have heard decent reviews on Garmin.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Howdy folks, another new 185Sport 4.3 owner here. We got the boat in my wifes favorite color (blue). Talk about lack of storage space, we had a 16ft boat withno storage.

I was just looking back at this thread and thinking about boating season once again. I figured I would bring the thread up to the top again to see what is new with the 185 owners.

I am now planning some upgrades to my boat including a second battery (or maybe replacing existing one with a deep cycle/starting single one), a second bilge pump and a battery switch. I should probably post a thread on each and get some opinions.

Just bought used 185 (20 hours) with wake tower. What's diameter of the tube in tower? Not able to measure it myself right now, boat is winterized and 200 kilometers away in dealers storage until spring... planning to buy pair of wakeboard racks... any recommendations?

Gents,

So last summer I upgraded my 4 board speakers to Polk Audio 8651's. I also mounted 4 of the same speakers up on my tower powerd by Alpine RMS 200 watt amp. So I have the wake package and the stock sub SUCKS!!! Where could I mount a new sub? What about those powered base tubes? email pics sarsenault@cfl.rr.com

Mounting a sub anywhere in this boat would be a trick. I have heard that some have tried those low profile units, but it would seem that they wouldnt be able to pump out the bass as would the tube types. I have a bazooka tube on my bigger boat and love it. problem is.... it would never fit in the 185.... :(

You might be able to go with a couple smaller, better quality subs. There MAY be room somewhere. I have the older style, with a BIT more space in it, so I can't really recommend a great place for the newer models. I do know that you can get some REALLY good quality bass out of smaller, higher quality speakers.
