185 Sport (2004) fit in my garage? (YES)

I'm looking at a 2004 185 Sport and did not think to get storage dimension requirements earlier today. I'm hoping for some help here so I don't have to wait until Thursday to find out!

My 'spare' garage has an 8' wide, 7' tall door and is 19' 6" deep, does anyone here with that model have these measurements handy?

The boat is coming on the original Sea Ray provided trailer with the folding tongue.

Thanks

Well, I used to have a 17' VIP (different house, different garage), but if I put the stern drive down a bit, turned the wheel hard over, then eased the boat back into corner of the garage, the tougue of the trailer fit in at an angle with room to spare. Basically the boat was diagonally placed in the garage, giving me more than the depth to work with.

I guess the question is how much longer is a modern Sea Ray compared to a 70's VIP and how much space does the folding trailer save me.

I guess I need to take all my garage dimensions as well as a tape measure to my test drive later this week.

Well, it wasn't easy, but it fits (just). Now for a little more carpentry work (dowels in the trim pieces I had to remove to clear the trailer fenders). The irony about this whole exercise though is that I moved to this part of town and bought a spec house. The previous two houses we built ourselves had 24' garages in them! We never got around to buying a ski boat until we're in a house with a tiny garage :-(

Hello,

I'm almost in the exact same situation. I have a 2-car garage that's only 19 feet, 4 inches deep. Obviously I have room to put it in at an angle. One question... how long is the boat WITH the trailer? The boat is 19'8", and it looks as though the trailer adds a bit to the length, even with the folding tongue. Do you have the exact length of the trailer? This is the main thing keeping me from jumping in! Thanks.

I'm honestly not positive I've got two inches to spare, but with a two car garage you've got width to move the pointy part (Bow) farther over.

It's hard to get an accurate length with a tape measure, but I'll give it a try tonight and post my results.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the trailer is shorter than the boat. The out-drive hangs farther out the back than the folded trailer hangs out the front. See my second photo above for the difference in distance to the garage door for the bow and trailer.

True, but I'm concerned about overall length, boat AND trailer, so even though the trailer is likely shorter than the boat, it looks as though the tongue is slighly longer than the bow of the boat, probably adding a couple of inches... which is crucial with shoehorning it in the garage!

Ok, I just measured 19' 8" from the prop to the tip of the folded trailer. It's angled so the trailer tip is about a foot away from one side of the garage door. The drive is trimmed down within about thee inches of the floor and turned all the way to one side.

This is in a 1 car garage, so you should have more space to angle it in a 2 car garage to get it in there.

Note that mine is a 2004. Starting in 2006 the added a swim platform that sticks out over the drive.

Good luck.

We had a 2003 185SRX with the swing tongue trailer and it fit inside with the 7 foot high garage door. I seem to recall it fit in a space that was 20 foot long, give or take a few inches. When I got it close, I disconnected it from my truck and pushed it back to fit into the exact painted marks (trailer tires), on the garage floor, then swinging the tongue to it's marked spot. Then I was able to pull in my two vehicles, along with my ride on mower and motorcycle. It all fit in a 3 car garage. Good luck! i got 2 foot itis and bought the next size up the 220 Sundeck and then the 240 Sundancer and finally at a boat show 4 months later bought the 2006 260 Sundancer and it's the best.
