Hey guys,
I will be buying a new sub 30ft sea ray in the next few days, all are within my price range but i dont know which one to choose. Any imput will be much appreciated and if you could give any feedback on the boats that would be great. So here are the contenders; 2008 185sport with 4.3mpi, 2007 210 select with 5.0 and upgraded pretty much everthing except motor and drive. 2008 230select with engine box, 350 mag and waketower. Or a 2006 270 slx with the 425.?? can you help? I live on a huge lake called flathead so size isnt really a problem. I can get great deals on the 210 and 270 and reasonable deals on the 185 and 230.
thanx in advance
Jack

A good starter question would be what are you planning to do with the boat and how many people will be doing it with you?
Fishing, wakeboarding, cruising. Sitting at the dock..with your wife.. with your wife 2 kids and their 4 friends......you see a 185 might work for one situation but the 260 might work better for a different situation.
With that being said, I would go as big as you can.

It will be used plenty by me, buisness partner (half oner) and my son(s) it think i am going to go with the 270 it has planty of power, space and noise (corsa exhaust :p), it has a cinibar hull and looks awsome 06 never used! I sold the same boat with white hull yesterday. Cant wait for this snow to melt so i can go have some fun:p. thanx for the imput

Capt Jack....Go for the 270SLX. That boat is VERY good looking. In fact I think it's one of the best looking sport boats out there. With the 425, cinnabar hull, it doesn't get much better than that. Does it have the arch? Anyway, Good luck! Brian

Change of plan i am now bying 2 195sports and renting them out during the summer
So instead of buying a boat for personal use you decided to go into a side business renting boats?

Maybe not a bad idea except I wouldn't rent out SEA RAYS. I may go with something a bit cheaper that you would pay off faster thus earning profit off of the boat.

I would also go cheaper so when the Joe Schmoes of the world are done bashing your rubrails into gas docks, shredding the hull on sand bars, or poking the occasional hole in the hull from a submerged rock. You wont be stuck with a P.O.S Sea Ray not worth much.

Good luck Capt Jack, it sounds like you have a well thought out business plan!!! I have heard of those ready, fire, aim type of people.

Wesley

Yeah very haha, i now own a property managment company and i am going to expand it into a vehicle rental company too, you see there are alot of rich cali's that come up here in the summer, most of them go though my company to rent out there houses during the rest of the year. Once there get here they have nothing to do so i am simply giving them the means to enjoy themselves. I only have to have 48 rentals in a year for the boats to pay for them selves including storage! Hmm so let me think a $70,000 that purley depriciates and costs an absolute fortune to to store or 2 195's for $20,000 less put together and they paractically pay for them selves and put money back in my pocket? Is it such a bad idea?

How about the liability insurance....must be expensive.....some wing nut kills or maims someone with your boat.......guess who the lawyers are coming after

Ididntdoit: ever heard of disclaimers??? dw we have very good lawyers they will get all the right papers pushed.
270wakeboarder: haha your funny i have just moved from florida i spent practically everyday of the 8 years out on the water. I sailed from fort walton beach to the bvi in the middle of january. I have been sailing since i was 6 when my dad built me a sailboat. I have been selling powerboats for 8 years i am the number 1 salesman for marinemax (the worlds biggest boat dealership) but now have left to enjoy other starands of life is that ok with you? If i where to put all the boats i have owned into my signiture it would take up far too much space to be sensible. I have never, since i was 6, gone without a boat for 6 months. Boats are my life (or should i say where)

fyi - I was just trying to help - no need to get defensive - thats what we do here - help each other out - how could we know you knew so much about boats? - your initial question was pretty basic for someone with the kind of boating experience you have!

No not a bad idea at all but.... how about 4 jet ski's for 10K each. Even easier to store.

Ididntdoit: sorry man i took it the wrong way thanks.
chuck1: I geuss your right in away yeah but, i wanted to know what others thought. I forgot to put in that i havent lived on a lake before therefore im not used to freshwater sorry and wanted to know if any of these are particularly good lake boats. Its all well and good me knowing how to sell boats its another to have expirence with them first hand over a long period of time.
Bridog: very true and did consider it but there are already many jetski rentals on the lake but only one or two boat rentals.
The boats will be for personal use as well this just gives us a way to do it for free, if you see what i mean. well night guys time for bed :D
