Boat Info
1986 21ft Seville Midcabin
Engines
170hp 3.7l Mercruiser with Alpha 1 Drive
I was told I should join this so here I am. Picked up this beauty last year for $750 and it's got been so much fun fixing it up. Today I started the demo on my midcabin, I found a tonnnnn of black mold under the carpets all over the cabin but thankfully bleach seems to be doing the trick. I'll keep you guys updated on my journey.

Welcome! The first post of possibly another life long boater! We are all happy you listened to that person who told you to join CSR. Lots of great people with tons of info here to answer any questions you may have. Post pictures of your progress along the way.

We would like More photos. The crew here is very helpful, when it comes to boats.

Good for you! I love to see young folks spend their spare time and hard earned money on something tangible rather than the latest video game. Restoring the boat and learning to use her responsibly will provide you life lessons that will serve you your entire life.
I look forward to many posts from you.
Carpe Diem

This post reminds me of me when I was 17.... My first boat was a 17ft Larson bowlder with a 140 Alph 1 gen 2.... It would Never get on plane and didn't know what was wrong with it... Now I know it was a stuck exhaust valve in the head... Your get tons of expense here and tons of knowledge... Good luck and welcome to the hobby..

Don't kill yourself over a moldy boat.

If it's in/on cellulose material like wood it will come back so the best thing to do is rip it out.

Might want to ask a mold expert what they use to eradicate the spores.

Welcome to CSR - Congrats on the boat, keep after the renovations, you'll always have projects or things that you want to do to it. You'll find plenty of ideas (and some answers) here

Amazing, welcome aboard. My first boat at 15, a small wooden skiff, never made it out of the back yard unfortunately. I had fun working on it though.

Welcome aboard!!

That boat will polish up NICE with a bit of elbow grease!! You can save a LOT of money by doing things yourself **and** doing them right!! I just sold a boat that will have it's 40th b-day next year and that boat still has decades of life if someone takes care of it.

Is yours an inboard or an outdrive? Post up some more pics as you go!!

@Garrett Templar Concrobium Mold Control on porous surfaces. Not a mold expert, but hlI have looked into this in the past.

Also, please be very careful and use really good personal protective equipment around that mold. My son was working on an old boat like you are, and developed a condition that almost killed him within hours of working on the boat.

Welcome from Idaho! That boat/engine/outdrive is a great combo. Small enough to easily handle, gets good fuel mileage, but big enough to have some room to move around in. What kind of amenities are in the cabin?

Some may call it an obsession...

Some advice check motor mounts at the stringers and transom and go from there. Think of these as the foundation for your boat. It's real easy to put in a ton of hard work on appearance to find out mechanically and structurally there's even more hard work to do. At this point get the old girl all uncovered internally so you know what you have ahead of you. As long as the hull is sound don't kill yourself in the beginning to polish it all up. Even though it's rewarding to do so keep your attention on the internals for now. Old boats will try your patience but you got youth in your favor. So good luck welcome aboard and you've come to the right place for advice.

Welcome. Not to go all Fauci on you, but while you clean that mold, be sure and wear a face mask.

As Kenneth Grahame said; “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
