I recently purchased a 2004 290 AJ. At the sea trial the 12v outlet worked. The boat was then trailered over from the west coast to the east coast. The outlet does not work now. I am getting power to the center stud in the receptical, but only by grounding the multi meter at the ground bus under the helm. If I ground using the wall of the 12v outlet, I do not get any power. THe same thing happens at the 12v outlet in the galley. I am assuming that they are wired in series and one of the ground wires came loose in the delivery. How do I remove the 12v outlet at the helm?

Thank you for your time

Most 12v outlets are secured from behind with a retaining nut. I am not sure where yours is located but you will likely have to remove one of the panels that contains the switches to get behind to the retaining nut.

Were the batteries disconnected at any time since you tested the boat? Seems to me that there may be a ground wire loose for sure, but to me it's fishy that it came off of one of the receptacles. I'd check to make sure that there isn't a loose ground wire in the engine room before I ripped apart the receptacle areas. My 280SS has a few wires going to the batteries that have round terminals on them and get secured via the post wing nuts. Just a thought.

check for loose ground wire on ground bus behind electrical panel

Thanks for everyone's ideas. I was able to remove a speaker close by and get to the backing nut. I was a broken connector on the ground wire. I respliced w/ a new connector and it works great.

Thanks again
