Okay I've seen this discussed before and read some old threads. I am looking at 15" LCD TVs to put in my 290da. I would prefer to go 12v and skip installing an inverter. the 12v TVs I've found are pricey and have analog tuners. I have read most 110v TVs are really 12v with a transformer. All of them I have looked at ( circuit city, Best Buy, etc. ) do not have a transformer on the power cord. Who has put in an LCD TV and did you buy 12v or go 110v with an inverter...or do the ole' bypass the transformer trick ( yeah that would void any warranty ).
What brand and model did you buy ?

I have a 12 volt Aquos flatscreen. You are right about it being analog. I'm going to add a small converter under my steps where the a/b switch is located. Some of the converters do nothing more than "convert" and are about the size of two decks of cards. 12 volts is the way to go when on the hook. You can watch a ball game and not have the genny running.

How much time are you really going to spend on the hook watching tv?
I have a 20" LCD HDTV in Salon and a 15" LCD HD in V-Berth
Running the genny for an hour or 2 every night does not offset the extra cost and tv can be brought home for winter use. I have never found a dual voltage appliance to be reliable.
Just my $0.02 worth!

In July and in the fall we do it almost every week end. When the grand kids are on the boat they can be down below watching a movie with no genny. Our fridge is 12 volts too. Both have been trouble free. I like having a genny, but it's nice not piling up a lot of hours on it and using it for essentials like heat and a/c, showers, coffee etc. Guess I never considered pulling the TV out to take home. If you need an extra TV at home that would be something to consider is suppose.

I could live without it but the wife and kids like to watch movies at night. Last boat only had DVD players / monitor no TV. This boat already has a TV antenna on the radar arch so I'm going to go with a 15" lcd.
