" party of 5 ", wife ( boat owner lol ) and 3 daughters, is heading to montauk on july 26 :smt038. been waiting all year the wife had back surgery, but she is doing better and the dr gave us the ok to go. weather permitting and how the wife holds up this is the plan:

day 1 thursday montauk yacht club

day 2&3 marthas vineyard oak bluffs marina

day4&5 nantucket boat basin

day 6&7 newport harbor hotel and marina

day 8&9 block island champlins

day 10 weather or (block island)

day 11 home:smt089

sounds like alot, but while we're there we want to see as much as we can. went to block last year, but the other places are new to us. any comments good or bad would be greatly appreciated. more importantly, if you see party of 5 at any one of these places be sure to stop by for a drink! the bad news i don't drink anymore... the good news i don't drink any less  will post pics along the way.

Be SAFE & have fun. :smt001

Sounds like a well planned trip, have fun and be safe. Make sure you take some spare parts along for the ride, i.e. impellers for engines and generator, serpentine belt(s), tools, fluids / oil...

sounds like you've done this before. lost a generator impeller last year at block island. loaded the boat all weekend

Aggressive, but a great trip.....Post pictures daily if you can.......

if the weather is good it should work if not maybe we'll skip one place. pics to come

Seems like a good itinerary. However, you may want to check on Oak Bluffs. They tend to back you into a slip that has a ladder on a bulkhead that you have to climb up (like 10 feet). Dogs and recent back surgery may be an issue.

thanks for the tip i will call oak bluffs. she is doing better, but not that good.(maybe is should trade her in for a newer model lol)

we stayed over one night there for the party bar scene. had a great time right up until a 100' ferry was blowing the horn for me to move at 6am next morning. yeah, they put me on the ferry dock and said not to worry- no boats coming in tomorrow. i had just come in from the bars a few hours earlier. not fun getting woke up, still drunk, hangover starting, seeing double. i told the guy i'm not moving. physically and mentally unable. his boys carefully pulled my lines and the boat over a little and we made room. nearly puked on him. later that day, i ran into the manager that put me there. long story short, "sorry" and 2 free nights. thats back when i had my 230 weekender. it looked like everyones dinghy in that area:grin:

Thats a funny story at least you got 2 free nights
I can relate to the dingy thing we went to sag harbor last year

Made it to Montauk. The weather was a little tough but not bad. It got windy toward the end. We left the dock in long branch at 6:20 am and got to montauk about 8 hours latter. We had to stop for fuel so really 7 hours of driving the boat. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. Long day

Glad you made it before the weather got there, its bad here on the North shore and heading your way. Be safe.

It started out good about 2 to 4 foot by the time we got between block island in martha's vineyard it built to 5 to 7 foot. rollers not bad. The boat and the crew held up very well. The wife ran the boat the whole way. Funny watching her in the bigger seas she did awesome. Post pics later.

Good job!! Funny but the original name of our 36sedan was Party of 6. From Boston Area? Enjoy your trip
John, this weekend the wife was in PR with the kids so I took friends out to raft up with some CSR friends ,not realizing how inexperienced my friends where until I had to drop anchor , back up to the raft up ,deploy fenders aka ( bumper thingy's) and tie off the (ropes) to some 5 other CSR members !!!! Well we pulled it off but with the wifey here It never would have crossed my mind .,I really missed her !!!

Great itinerary, you'll love it. IMO, Edgartown is the place to be, especially on mooring. Beautiful harbor with a beautiful town. We thought of going to Vineyard Haven, but couldn't leave Edgartown. We took the bus and cabs to see Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs, it was great way of touring the surrounding area and maintain Edgartawon as a home base. I highly recommend Atlantic restaurant. Awesome views, great food and service. It's a little on the pricy side, but well worth it. A quick tip, Menemsha had cheapest fuel in the area, cheaper than on main land. I don't remember gas, but diesel was $3.88. If you decide to stop there for fuel make sure to run to Larsons and get lobster bisque and lobsters. Best lunch I had in a long time.

Nantucket - now is our favorite port. We were scheduled to be there for 2 nights but had to extend it, just couldn't leave....LOL. Walk the docks to see mega yachts. Take the island tour. Make sure to have the camera. Museum in town (walking distance) is very nice.

BI to home - is a bit aggressive, but doable for sure. Make sure you plan your fuel stops.

I still didn't have a chance to do a write up about my trip. But, I'll do it some day. I have GIGs and GIGs of pics.

Have fun and stay safe.

sorry about the pics i give up for now. i'll take any help i can get. fyi oak bluffs doesn't have fuel and from what i understand not for the rest of the year. oak bluffs was good we didn't have great weather and i think next time we would stay at edgartown. stopped at edgartown for fuel (fuel at orient pt was $4.60 a gallon and edgartown was $4.70) then we were on our way to nantucket. it was a little bit of a bumpy ride 2 to 3' head seas. we tried to follow a bigger boat for a while, but he only cruised at 15 to 16 knots. to slow for me i was plowing through the water. it was better than taking a beating but i used alot of fuel.
nantucket is great we love it here. we might stay an extra day here then skip newport and just go to block. maybe leave block a day early and take 2 days to get home. it would be doable in 1 day, but a really long day and if i hit bad weather or seas i wouldn't make it.
this trip has us thinking about trading up to a 2005 to 2007 44' dancer or sedan bridge. if you know someone looking to sell or someone looking for a 340da.
i'll post more later and i'll get a price for fuel in nantucket
