That's how old my MIL was on 6/11 when she passed away comfortably in her sleep. Tina and I were both there at the end of her life. The number in the heading is how old she was. Yup, 106.499. She would have been 106.5 today, but her life ended a day short of that mark.

Lucille Ziemba was born 12/12/1915 in Ingomar, MT, a town which doesn't even exist any more. Lucille and her family moved to Cle Elum, WA when she was about 7 years old so her dad could work in the coal mines. She graduated from Cle Elum High School and shortly there after married her high school sweetheart, John Casassa. She and John had two children, Don and Tina.

I was lucky enough to marry into this wonderful family in 2008. Lucille took me on as another son and I took her on to be my surrogate mother. She and I became very close and to me, she felt like a real mother. In a lot of marriages there is a friction between MIL's and the guys their daughters marry. Not so in this case. I felt like the luckiest man in the world to have been "adopted" by Lucille, not to mention marrying a wonderful lady.

In the last 3 years of her life Lucille lived in a long term care facility and maintained good health and an equally good sense of humor. (She needed that to put up with me!) For the past year or so she suffered from dementia that progressed to a point where it eventually took her life.

Lucille, I know you are in heaven walking arm and arm with John. You're probably dressed to the nines and shopping in heaven's version of Nordstrom. Your aches and pains are gone so you can be free to live like you always did--full of joy and happiness.

We miss you Mom.

I'm so sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss Mike. My sincerest condolences.
106+ is a heck of a ride and I'm sure you and yours will celebrate your MILs life in due course.

Wow, she saw so many things, what an incredible life.
Condolences to your family for the loss of this amazing woman

My condolences, Mike. Godspeed to you and your family.

My condolences also.

Lost my mother 7 years ago to that miserable damn disease. Only good thing is, at some point THEY are fine because they don't know what they've forgotten.

I'm sure she's smiling down on you and yours.

So sorry to hear of your loss and please accept my sincere condolences.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.
Thoughts and prayers out to you, your better half and your family.

Thanks for all of your kind comments. I think it's starting to hit home as we look at all the things that need to be done. We packed up all of her belongings yesterday and have them stored in the garage. Most of it is clothing that will need to be sorted out then taken to the local rescue mission. There isn't a lot there, but it's still a daunting task.

Mike, I'm very sorry for you & your family's loss... 106 is a life very well lived, and look at you,

You Married the Coal Miner's Daughter, Congrats !!!
