I find one 10 to be sufficient. Might tell a difference if you added a 12.

Adding more surface area will add to the output. However, if not on the same plane, they may actual create some phase cancellation, resulting in a reduction of perceived bass. Im also not typically a fan of pairing a smaller and larger driver together. You have to tune to the smaller driver, which can leave some performance of the larger speaker, untapped.

With only 160W rms, id consider an amp with more wattage, like the M600/1 if you wanted to stay in the JL line.

I have a single 10” sub with upgraded amps and speakers for the (4) 6” mids. Awesome sound for the boat no matter what I listen to including rap, etc. It is very confined to the boat though...I can not entertain the beach.

A friend has a 260 DA with something like 3000 watts powering 3 subs (a 15” and 2 10s), and 10 various mids all cut into the boat. Has its own battery and chargers. It is not only uncomfortable in the boat but the entire boat rattles. You can hear it just fine on the beach.

Depends on your goal.

Just spoke with my friend with the 260 DA and I was wrong.

He has 4000 watts to 17 speakers with just 2 subs. 2 cabin speakers, 2 subs, leaves 13 cockpit 6-8”s all cut in. He bought it like that.

To each their own.

I have two 10" JL subs.....love em'.

I think Wylie is accurate though in reference to the different phases if you do different sizes. When I was spec'ing out my system with the stereo folks, my existing hole on the aft deck was for a 10" and wouldn't hold anything larger. The additional sub was going on the helm deck and had plenty of space for a 12" sub, but the stereo folks said that wouldn't be a good idea.

Keeping just the 10". I am going to add another set of 770s for more mid. They should give me the sound I'm looking for. They definitely have more bass then the 6.5. They sound much fuller.

So, 4 770's, 2, 650's and a 10" sub? Should sound fantastic. Can never have to much sound system upgrades :)

Good plan, not a good idea to run an 8 and a 10 on the same channel- different freq range. You didn’t say what amplification you are using?
I am in the process of upgrading and went with the new M6-650, 3 pair, M6-770, M6-880 and the M12IB and a M10IB powered by 2 MHD 900/5 ‘s and the Fusion Apollo 770.

That's some well spent boat bucks there.
