Boat Info
480 Sea Ray DB
Engines
Twin 635 Cummings
I have owned boats all my life but new to yachts and in market to buy. I am considering buying 2002 48' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge. The boat appears to be well maintained and I have maintenance records for 2009 and 2010. However, the boat will reach 1,000 hours before long. Can someone tell me where I can obtain a checklist or things that should be checked for 1,000 hour maintenance? I have looked at owner's manual but it give little help. I am trying to estimate cost associated with maintenance requirements at 1,000 hour mark. ENGINES ARE CUMMINGS 675 HP DIESEL

Good question. Engines are 675 hp Cummings Diesel. Sorry forgot to add.

The recommended service intervals are shown in the Cummins owners/operators manual which is included the owners packet on the boat. You might be able to down load a copy from Cummins-Mercruiser .......you are looking for the QSM-11 marine engine.

If you have not yet purchased the boat, be sure to make your deal contingent upon the owner providing you with the complete owners packet. Sea Ray includes the installation and operators manuals for every purchased component they install on their boats. The owners packet for a 480DB is going to be just about the equivalent of 2 brief cases full of documentation. Having access to it will save you lots of time and speed you up the learning curve for the boat you buy.

Welcome aboard. You only need to post to one forum. I've merged the threads.

I have had good luck with my QSM-11's. So far everything I read seems to indicate that they are great engines. Looking in the Maintenance Manual, there is no specific 1000 Hour Maintenance, but, you should compare the following with what you know was done:

Every 250 / 6 Months:
Fuel Filter
Oil and Filter
Check SCA in coolant
Check Zincs

Every 600/1 Year
Adjust overhead set

Every 1500 / 1Year
Check
-Water Pump
-Turbo
-Engine Mounting bolts (bolt can loosen up on this thing)
-Air leaks, intake and exhaust
-Cooling hoses
-batteries
-air cleaner
-Sea Water pump
Flush Seawater system

Every 6000 / 2 Years
Flush Cooling system
Check Vibration Damper

It is a great boat, there is a ton of info on this site about it, do some searches.

There are a few things to look out for though. Things like, leaking front cover seals and cracked coolant resevoir brackets come to mind.

Thank you all. I did not think of Cummings manual and the list very helpful. I can compare to work receipts provided. And thanks for letting me know only one thread needed.
