Hi All. Has anyone else had problems with the L-shaped plastic brackets that holds the fuel tank in position on the new 240 (245 in Europe!). I was told the other week by my engineer that the brackets were pulled out on one side and that the fuel tank could freely move. When I got there to look at it we realised that the whole fuel tank (weighs over a quarter of a tonne when full!) is held in place by two plastic L-shaped brackets and 6 self-tapping screws! Thats really not adequate for the job! We've now engineered (probably over engineered!) steel bars that brace across the front of the tank with coach screws into the GRP. They will take the weight! Only raising this because they're not the sort of things that people check unless you specifically notice this! But the implications if the fuel tank shifted and hit the belts whilst underway would be pretty disastrous.

I recall others posting about the same problem. Try the search feature or look in the "official" 240DA thread.

That was from me. This happened when I first purchased the boat new in 07. Both brackets broke loose and the fuel tank moved slightly closer to the engine. I returned the boat to the dealer and stressed the dangers of the fuel tank from hitting the engine. They replaced the brackets and drilled four screws on each side instead of only using 3. Additionally, longer screws were used this time. This was done under warranty.

Has it been ok since? I'll get some pics of the "over engineering" we've now done down there! Looks real neat too having chrome bars in front of the tank - kinda looks like a strut-brace that holds the tank right back.

Its been perfectly fine since it was repaired. Post the pics when you have a chance.
