Remembering some of the fiberglass defects that a couple of '06 owners at SRO mentioned, I took a good look at my boat with fresh eyes. Although I didn't find any of the cracking that others had, I did find a patch inside the bilge that look like a blister that had been cut out. It was on the hull where it meets the transom closer to the drain plug fitting. I know the area back there is pretty beefy.

So, should I make a big stink about it when I take the boat in to be winterized along with a couple of other warranty items?

Don't know what to tell you on that problem...but mine goes in Monday for the Keel crack repairs and Swim Deck repairs. My service writer and the guy that does the repair are meeting me to go over each issue at hand and explaining the way it will be fixed.

I had to have ablister fixed on the bottom of the hull when we first picked it up and I swear you cant even tell he touched it.

This is where I realize we have not seen Rob; I would definately point the problem out to your dealer when you take it in to have it winterized, what I have had success with is point it out and as tanner explained let them tell you how it is going to be corrected. If they did do a fix and it does not look right have them do a fix again until you are satisfied. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice guys!!

If I can get them to fix that and all the broken canvas snaps, I'll be a happy man.

the 185 sports, matter of fact all of the sports have had several issues, take them back to you dealer and they should fix them.
the snaps have been an issue on all boats................

darn my snaps are FINE and no major cracks - I'm going to have to take a close look at the boat before we bring itin for winterizing

most of my keel cracks 4 of the 5 are not visible to the naked eye but show up with bright light or take a wax pen to the area and wipe clean (wax stays in the crack) and then you can really see them.

This was adivise from my dealer by the way.

I have only had one snap come out and I just put 5200 on it and has been fine since.

Well I got my boat back Thursday and the keel looks awesome I cant even tell that work was done to it. :smt001 The guy that did the repairs mentioned it was caused by the trailer crossmembers coming in contact with the keel when loading and even off loading. He has seen a few with similar problems. His best educated guess was that there was probally a void (between the gelcoat and fiberglass) that caused it to spider crack. The others he thought were from the mold at the factory (these were more peels than cracks) and the keel areas stuck possilby when being released from the mold.

That being said i have never power loaded my boat and as he noticed never beached it either. So we are looking into a fix for this but as he said it has been a known issue. A roller may help and if the rest of the keel is solid shouldn't return. I hope! :smt009

After all that we found more cracks in the swim deck but that will have to be fixed next year. These were on the top of the swim deck. The cracks under the swim deck (had these since it was at 3 hours) seem to be more cosmetic because of how thick the rough gelcoat is applied.

I did see a another cutomers boat there with cracks in the nonslip gelcoat I am glad I dont have issues there, it appers that would be tough to match up right.

Is this something that will keep returning or do you all think it will be ok. Anybody have any history with these type of cracks?

Tanner

I guess not? Oh well had them go ahead and winterize the boat and will worry about this next year.

Well, the dealer called back and said they couldn't find anything wrong. I guess I must be seeing things.

geezzz this topic always makes me nervous... not found any such cracks and paranoid I'm just not seeing them. I did have the one 'void' issue in the transom (which of course the dealer had promptly and very well repaired) maybe when spring comes and I get her ready (before the warranty runs out) I'll do another close inspection.

185 sport fiberglass cracking

Getting my boat back within the next two weeks. Last year I had the fiberglass in the cockppit of my new 06 185 repaired 3 times and the fracturing kept returning in thr same place, next to the drain plug in the cockpit on the port side. Over the winter i asked local MM to repair the cracking, once again. Haven't seen the boat yet, but will keep all up to date when boat is returned, as I believe there is a defect with many of the sport boats of 06. i also noticed that they changed the layout of the drain plug in the 07 year of 185 sport, hmm.
