The Radar dome was knocked off my 2001 340 Sundancer in transit. The dome and bracket are salvageable but the cable is fried. Any advice on the cable I need and how tough it is to run?

Really Appreciate the Help!

It will depend on the model and brand of your Radar. I would assume it's factory and a Raymarine, but you will need to match whatever the existing cable is.

It is the production Raymarine. The dealer wants a fortune for the cable. I am wondering about trying to find the cable myself and run it, but it is not obvious how it fishes from the arch along the starboard side.

If part of the old cable remains, you could tape to it and use it to pull the new cable through. You might also tie/tape a pull string to the remaining bit of cable and then use that to pull in the new one.

There are lots of used and new Raymarine parts for sale on EBay that people remove from their boats to upgrade. My boat has a removable access panel under the radar to facilitate wiring. If yours doesn't, you might remove a light or speaker to help fish the wires. The padded sections on the arch just above the bottom of the arch are removable as well.

You probably can't use the string trick on the radar cable - it is tie wrapped to the boat in several places.

While sitting in the helm chair, look down to your right, next to your right leg, and there is a white plastic storage bin outfitted with a drink holder. 4 screws retain this bin in place. Remove the 4 screws, pull the bin, and you will find the radar cable. It is routed forward a couple feet, then passes through an access hole, and from there to the helm. It connects to the radar display under the helm, and can be accessed through the helm door, located at your shins while you are sitting at the helm.

Moving aft from the (now removed) bin, the cable passes into the forward section of the starboard cockpit storage locker. Open the locker door, stick your head in there, and you will see a carpet covered piece of plywood, retained by some small screws and a couple angle brackets. Pull the screws, remove the board, and you'll see more of the cable. From here, it is routed up, and into the arch. Access can be gained at the base of the arch by removing the vinyl covered trim panel - it is retained by "christmas tree" style hardware. Just gently pry it out, and it will pull away from the arch.

From here, the cable passes up into the arch, and to the radome. I have been able (many times!) to simply push a stiff piece of wire or cable from the radome area, and into the arch, until it pops out at the base of the arch. Use this to pull in a new radar cable. From the base of the arch, once all the parts described above are removed, you can fish the cable through the remaining areas by hand.

Hope this helps.....(If you need more info, send me a PM, and I'll give you my number)

I ran a new cable on my 320. It took me almost 8 hours. It was a *****. And I used the light cable (1 red and 1 black) if you use the heavy radar cable (2 red, 2 black) the wire is considerably thicker and harder to run. The reason it was so difficult was because Sea Ray coiled excess cable for a number of things in a dead zone at the base of the radar arch behind the drivers seat. The new cable has to pass through that mess to get up to the radar arch. On my boat it was impossible to access. I could feel the wires when I stuck my arm down from the speaker but I couldnt see them.

Good advice on using the old cable to pull the new one through, just be careful that it is not coiled up somewhere at the base of the radar arch.

I bought one of these, but it didnt really help, just confirmed what I felt.

The ’01 340 is not too difficult to run cable... As Dale said the key is to take off the arch base cover, and the access points in the starboard storage locker. I ran wires for Led speaker covers up the arch. There are a bunch of miscellaneous cables that run up the arch... Also, pull our the speaker out of the arch for more access. It is screwed in to the arch. BTW, when you pry off the cover at the base of the hatch, I had to replace the white Christmas tree snaps. To do that you will have to remove the vinyl covering on the plastic cover to insert new snaps. Removing and replace those covers is only good for about three or four times.

To answer your orginal question, you will need about 25' of cable...

has anyone run a cable wire from the Cabin TV back to the arch to install a cockpit TV? If so which side did you run it on and is there already an acess hole through the bulkhead?

Sorry for the hi jack....

I ran some cables for my M1 sat dish if you remove the Cockpit fridge or ice maker you will see cables going forward. Take a metal snake and run it on top of cables. I dont know if i got lucky but it came out behind tv in cabin. The only problem is you have to drill a hole in bulkhead between garbage can and icemaker. I ran some extra cables for tv but never used them in cockpit area. Rich

Sorry to butt in but I am trying to route a tv cable on a 2001 310 Sundancer from tv to radar arch. See the cable behind cupboard on port side but how to get it to radar arch? Help!

so the vynl pads in the cockpit that are at the bottom of the arch, pry strait off? and then you can access the inside?

I was thinking I would have to run, center-speaker-speaker to hols in the bottom you can see form storage compatment.

pics of that cover off would be great!
