fuel leak corrosion

I have a Searay 1800Le 1999. The boat has a plastic fuel tank which sits under the rear right seat. On top of the tank sits a metal (brass?) plate which has two wires which run to the fuel gauge, under the plate is some sort of gasket? The metal plate is corroded and when the fuel tank is filled...
