    5.0 MPI wont start

When I had my 300DA with 5.0L engines, I had a similar thing happen at delivery. Cranked but wouldn't fire. Turned out to be a crankshaft sensor that had come loose. Took the mechanic 5 minutes to find & fix it. The salesman was really sweating for those 5 minutes, though.

    New boat ownership cost ?

...my wife would ask me " And just HOW would you know that ??" :smt013 Reminds me of a joke about a guy who was asked how much money it took to own a boat (or plane..): His reply ? "Why, all of it, of course !"

Battery Watering Kit for 2007 320DA

Turkey baster works, but a plastic condiment dispenser works better. Holds more distilled water, good tapered tip, and cheap to buy. Think I got mine at a Krogers Supermarket for a buck or so.

    Marine Powder Coating for Anchor

How about having it sprayed with bedliner material ? That is available in a bunch of colors. Don't know how much it would cost, but surely less than half a boating buck...

    Is It A Mayday?

I thought it was 'securite' x 3 for imminent danger. I'm familiar with 'Pan-Pan-Pan' for aviation usage, but did not realize it was used on the water, as well.

Erwin Marine Nashville to close service center

Found out today that Erwin Marine will be closing their service center at the end of the month. Sad, because it's supposedly because of a lease extension issue. They have done my maintenance for the last 4 yrs, and I have found them to be reliable and trustworthy. Good techs, and the manager has...

    Relocating Boat to Mid-TN

Welcome in advance to Old Hickory. Yeah, it's not the best idea to go out after hard rains for a couple of days. Which marina are you going to be staying at ? I'm at Creekwood.

    Motors or wheel

Like Frank says, whatever works for you is good. Now, something you might want to try for fun, is backing it in with one shut down - the one that runs your power steering pump. Had that happen to me the 2nd or 3rd time I had my DA300 out. The IAC failed that engine for me. Not overly difficult...

Pics from quite a trip home

I've read and re-read the thread, and enjoy it each time. When you were buying charts, did you find a good single source, or did you have to scrounge a bit ? I'd like to 'invest' in a few charts. Maybe someday go to the Gulf, or home to Michigan. The bucket list never seems to shrink...

    how many people on board

I've also found that 8 is a good working number. I think 15 onboard would be a stretch. I guess another question is whether or not those 15 guests are familiar with boating or not. Always a concern about proper use of the head, etc. Maybe another option might be to take 2 smaller groups, on 2...

Looking for an accredited Surveyor in the Nashville area - any recommendations?

I used John Walker for my last survey. He does a lot of Nashville area surveys. He's SAMS and ABYC. He doesn't do the engine surveys. I had an engine tech named Garry Sago, out of Bowling Green, KY do my engines/genset surveys. John's contact info: 615-883-5600. Email walkmar@comcast.net...

    Current Leakage

I would always assume that there IS stray current at the dock...if not your slip, could be the next one over. Scary stuff...

Line 2 Shore Power Inlet Fitting

You should be able to get the replacement ends thru West Marine or Defender, or at least see the costs. Re: damage to the underwater metal, a bad ground from the shore power cord could cause stray current electrolysis damage to it, and a lot faster than you might think.

    Cataracts

I had a fast-growing cataract in my right eye removed last October. I've worn glasses all my life, so it doesn't bother me to continue to wear them. My Ophthalmolgist told me that most people who chose to plunk down the additional $$ for a multi-focal lens are looking to 'get out' of glasses...

Beaver Island Trip - Lake Michigan

I would be inclined to stage out of Charlevoix, and day trip on Lake Charlevoix to Boyne City and East Jordan, if you're looking to veg out. But I'm biased, as I grew up there. Never did go to Beaver Island....Can't go wrong anywhere up there in the Summer, as long as you know your limitations...

    New Orleans Lakefront Airport

Go to a site that sells higher-end aircraft, such as www.controller.com and just do a search for jets, and you'll see most of the executive iron there. Most aircraft-addicted folks just learn over time by hanging out at the airports and reading everything they can get their hands on.

How brand loyal are you ??

I have always had a 'thing' for Sea Rays, since I was a teen working the marina docks in Northern Michigan. Took a long time until we decided to finally buy our 1st SR - a 300DA. We enjoyed it for 2 yrs, then decided to step up to diesels and sliding glass doors with a nice cockpit 'patio' to...

Opinions needed: What is BEST handheld bilge pump?

As for routine little cleanups, I use the smallest (2.5 gal) Shop-Vac. I don't know what 'normal' amounts of bilge water are...any in my bilges is just not right. Regarding the final line of defense, I'll depend on the red emergency button on my VHF, and worry about getting everyone off safely...
