Stuffing boxes should drip when turning only. So sitting still you're OK. I would repack them with new material. the old stuff will heat up and just disappear shortly. Use a pick made for this purpose and get all the old packing out. Yes it will leak like mad while you're doing it but...

MR44ts 1 heat range hotter than stock, extended electrode for a good solid burn. Get some good fuel or some octane treatment and set you timming a touch hot, maybe 10 degrees instead of 8. Hang on. NGK makes a compatable plug. Look at the cross over chart.

There is a red button breaker on the motor. On that year I'm not certain of the location, but it is either mounted on the front of the starboard exhaust manifold (provided it's not a v-drive with the motor sitting backwards) or its mounted on the back of the motor just above the bellhousing...

A really good welder could fix you up. The trick on cast is to heat the manifold up and then braze/weld with a torch, not an arc. I had two of mine done on a pair of 255 mercs I had. Best to go with new manifolds if you want to replace. Try eBasicPower.com.
